How Obama Won the Presidency in 2008 - and Why

In a word..."demographics"

95% of the Blacks, 78% of the Jews, 73% of the Hispanics - and most of the "young" whites (known as Generation "Y") voted for Obama.

(*How Bill Ayers won the 2008 election - At bottom of this post.)

How? First let's look at the Democrat's Party Platform

Democrats: supports affirmative action, opposes cutting social services like welfare, favors universal healthcare, favors raising the minimum wage, advocates against "global warming", favors taxpayer-paid college educations (like in Europe and Canada), supports the Alternative Minimum Tax (Charlie Rangel has said he will push for permanent AMT relief for those taxpayers who were never meant to pay it...the tax that was originally designed to tax the rich - like himself!), supports taxpayer-paid abortions and birth control, opposes outlawing sodomy, opposes the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq...and the radical far left-wing liberals (like most academics) tend to favor globalization as well. (Talks about a global currency is being discussed right now.)

On National Security: Democrats opposed the use of "waterboarding" on terrorists that were captured while trying to kill U.S. troops abroad (they called it torture); but instead, to treat terrorists as Prisoners of War (POWs) with full Geneva Conventions Rights (though they wore no uniform or represented any sovereign or legal country like our enemies did in Korea, during World War I, or during World War II (or any other war in history dating back to 1776) - Democrats also want terrorists tried in U.S. courts of law with Miranda Rights (the right to remain silent, etc). Now Eric Holder (Obama's Attorney General) wants to interrogate our intelligence personnel! I wonder if they'll have Miranda Rights too!

*My opinion: Waterboarding was a successful form of interrogation that was used to glean vital information to save American lives. Some "detainees" have said that the "loud music" was even worse! (I guess you can't please everybody!)

*** Ironically, the song "Happy Days Are Here Again" is the unofficial song of the Democratic Party. It was used prominently when Franklin D. Roosevelt was nominated for president in 1932 during the Great Depression. Why? I don't have a clue...see my post about the Dust Bowl during this time in American history. (I guess we can sing that song in 2009 too!)

Now look at how the minorites (Blacks, Jews, and Hispanics) have historically voted in the past (and why)

Blacks (95%) - At first, after the end of the Civil War, African-Americans almost unanimously favored the Republican Party due to President Lincoln's "Emancipation Proclamation". However, as years passed and memories waned, African-Americans began drifting to the Democratic Party because of Franklin Roosevelt's "New Deal" programs that gave economic relief to minorities (African Americans and Hispanics). Support for the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s by Democratic presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson also helped give the Democrats even larger support among the African-American community, which consistently voted between 85-95% Democratic. (Tradionally, "a done deal".)

Jews (78%) - Mostly the conservative Jews (as opposed to Orthodox Jews) and mostly those who's constituency are politically active and influential in large cities such as New York City, voted for Democrats. The 2008 Democratic Party Platform claimed a "special relationship with Israel". (hmmmmmm - clear throat)

Hispanics (73%) - Most have been strong supporters of the Democratic Party because they commonly favor their liberal views on immigration (illegal and legal), increasing their demographics and voting power.

Asians (62%) - Most Asian-Americans tend to be more "pro-business" than most minority groups, and typically are "economic centrists" and "social progressives". Younger Asian-Americans of all ethnic backgrounds ages between 18–30 have gravitated towards the Democratic Party. (With Obama's current economic policies, this doesn't make sense to me.)

43% of Whites voted for Obama in 2008 - McCain's biggest supporters were mostly over 60 years old, attended church once a week, and lived in small towns and rural areas (Sounds like a nasty group of people!) Demographics shown below.

2008 Election Demographic Results (Click to enlarge)

Demographics

Go to original source: NY Times http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/exit-polls.html

The Whites that voted for Obama were mostly between the ages of 18 and 29 (those that were born between 1979 to 1990) - Generation "Y"

(Also 63% of all the voters were not high school graduates - THIS AMAZED ME!) - (Also 69% of all the voters were "first-time voters" - ACORN's "Get Out The Vote") If the Republicans want to compete, they would need to do something similar.

The oldest Generation "Y" voter was just barely old enough to be Obama's child.

1990 the youngest of Generation "Y" is born
-1961 Obama is born
= 29 years difference

Obama at 47 years old (now 48)
- 18 youngest Generation "Y" voter
29 years younger than Obama (Not old enough to be their grandfather)

1979 the oldest of Generation "Y' is born
-1961 Obama is born
= 18 years difference

Obama at 47 years old (now 48)
- 29 oldest Generation "Y" voter
18 years younger than Obama (Just old enough to be Obama's child)

Commentary: It seems that the most glaring aspect of these results is that "young whites" determined the Presidential Election in 2008.

Possible reasons and why

1) Generation "Y" AKA "The Millennial Generation" AKA "The Millennials" AKA "The Echo Boomers" (born between 1979 to 1990) were raised in the age of the boom in communication technologies, made possible through the use of the internet, email, texting, and IM (and new media used through websites such as YouTube and social networking sites like FaceBook, MySpace, and Twitter). Barack Obama, using these mediums, connected with this group of young people. But even though this group had access to much information, many were either politically un-savvy and/or were greatly influence by their parents and teachers (see below). I guess they don't rebel like the kids used to do in the old days.

2) Barack Obama was much younger than "that old and stodgy McCain guy". He wasn't "cool" by the younger voter's standards. This group (known as Generation "Y") could not relate to Viet Nam POWs like John McCain because many of THEIR OWN PARENTS had protested that very war; and some had even spat in the faces of those returning troops...calling them "baby killers".

*Three of my best friends at that time (who were all white, and like me, also protested the war) were drafted into the Viet Nam War while Charlie Rangel was then on the draft board arguing that a supposedly disproportionate amount of "Afro-Americans" were being drafted into the war. All my friends made it back from the war alive (though very affected) and none of them were ever spat on when they returned home.

The young people have been learning politics from extreme far-left professors - people who were in the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS)

David Axelrod had been brilliant! (That's why he makes the BIG money.)

David Axelrod's Complete Biography Here:
http://tobuds.com/blogs/blog1.php/2009/09/18/david-axelrod-his-complete-biography

And Barack Obama had also been brilliant...he appeased the left-wing base, comforted the traditional and "moderate" Democratic voters (mentioned above), and completely fooled the gullible and younger Generation "Y" with poetically enthralling and beautiful orations of "Change you can believe in". (And who were most probably registered as Independents).

(And boy, won't we all be getting some change now!)

...but what is REALLY scary is - those young kids weren't gullible or tricked - they were indoctrinated!

Barack Obama - The U.S. President (POTUS) received the overwhelming support from "young" whites - the majority of the Asians, the Hispanics, the Native Americans, and most African-Americans (when Michelle Obama was finally proud of her country) because Obama (as a left-wing community organizer) had not been properly vetted by the American public...

...and are we all just now starting to find out?

In Closing

Glenn Beck as done a very good job of routing out the radicals that Obama has brought into the White House with him, but I fear that Generation "Y" has already left the barn door open...

- who let the dogs out? - who let the dogs out? - who let the dogs out -

Maybe all we can hope for now is that there are still some sensible people in Congress who will do their sworn duty and get us out of the mess - to protect us from all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Obama's Closest People in the White House:

Generation Jones - Just Like Obama (people born between 1954 and 1965)

(In order of age)

*Bill Ayers - born December 26, 1944 - turns 65 in 2009 (retirement age)

Ayers is part of the "Silent Generation" (born between the "Great Generation" and the "Baby Boom Generation")

He is currently a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago . . . most of his students are from Generation "Y" (ages of 18 and 29).

Does this country even have a chance? With people in academia like Bill Ayers, teaching these young people in the universities - indoctrinating his students in his radical ideologies...where will we be in the next generation? Have we already lost this one?
