Supreme Court Reverses Sonia Sotomayor's Ruling for Firefighters
Sotomayor was the first Hispanic lesbian judge to be nominated to the Supreme Court by President Obama.
She recently had her "unsigned" ruling reversed in the latest Supreme Court decision regarding "New Haven Firefighters Lawsuit; Ricci vs. DeStefano". The Supreme Court ruled, saying New Haven did indeed "improperly use race" as a basis for throwing out the results of a pair of tests administered to candidates for lieutenant and captain positions...indicating that the firefighters had been discrimination against.
Sotomayor's original ruling had dismissed the firefighter's lawsuit without an explanation while she served as a Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Should Sotomayor's comment about "white men" be taken seriously? And what about that "off-the-cuff" remark about judges litigating law? Should we take that seriously also? (She herself is of Puerto Rican descent).

Firefighter's Reaction to the News

NOTE: Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation for the Supreme Court is to replace Justice Souter, who's vote in the "Kelo vs. City of New London" decision allowed city governments to use Eminent Domain to take land from one private owner and give it to another private owner if the government could generate greater tax revenue or produce other economic benefits if the land was developed by the new owner.
Sotomayor's and Souter's decisions were both related to issues raised in the State of Connecticut.
