Nobody can accurately predict the weather tomorrow, but some claim to know what will happen to the climate 100 years from now.
Page six of the New York Times headlined the serious concerns of geologists...but the Times wasn’t warning us about global warming - it was telling its readers about the looming dangers of a new ice age! (Only our president wasn't Barack Obama; it was Grover Cleveland. The year was 1895.)
80 years later in 1975, the New York Times reported: “A Major Cooling Widely Considered to Be Inevitable.”
That same year Newsweek reported on April 28, 1975 - "The central fact is that after three quarters of a century of extraordinarily mild conditions, the earth’s climate seems to be cooling down. "

Journalists have warned of climate change for 100 years, but can’t decide whether we face another ice age or a global meltdown...and it's the "main-stream" journalists that decide what, and what not, they cover. They also decide whether or not to include opposing viewpoints. That’s a balance lacking in the current “climate debate.”

March 1, 1975 - Science News - "The cooling since 1940 has been large enough and consistent enough that it will not soon be reversed, and we are unlikely to quickly regain the "very extraordinary period of warmth" that preceded it.
March 1, 1975 - Science News - "The temperature has already fallen back some 0.6 degrees, and shows no sign of reversal."
July-August 1975 - International Wildlife - " But the sense of the discoveries is that there is no reason why the ice age should not start in earnest in our lifetimes."
Then, in a mere 6 years, we suddenly go from a cooling planet back to a warming planet.
Aug. 22, 1981- The New York Times quoted seven government atmospheric scientists who predicted global warming of an “almost unprecedented magnitude.”
1992 - Al Gore: Earth in the Balance - "About 10 million residents of Bangladesh will lose their homes and means of sustenance because of the rising sea level, due to global warming, in the next few decades."
Feb. 2, 2006 - The Daily Telegraph - "Billions will die. Human civilization will be reduced to a broken rabble ruled by brutal warlords and the plague-ridden remainder of the species will flee the cracked and broken earth to the Arctic, the last temperate spot, where a few breeding couples will survive!"

Few people understand the real significance of Climategate, the now-famous hacking of emails from the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit (CRU). Most see the contents as demonstrating some arbitrary manipulating of various climate data sources in order to fit preconceived hypotheses (true), or as stonewalling and requesting colleagues to destroy emails to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in the face of potential or actual Freedom of Information requests (also true).
But there's something much, much, worse going on - a silencing of climate scientists, akin to filtering what goes in the bible, that will have consequences for public policy, including the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) recent categorization of carbon dioxide as a "pollutant."
